E4C in Poland: Visit to the elementary school in Mirzec

Our team in Poland visited the elementary school in Mirzec today and got around 40 children interested in wolves and our research work.

Together with the scout groups “Mirzecka Pack” and “Courageous Wolves”, we explained how we observe wolves, understand their movements and derive protective measures from this. It was not just about facts, but above all about a better understanding of the life of these animals in a changing landscape.

The second part was practical: the children were able to try out for themselves how we track wolves with radio collars. Equipped with a receiver and antenna, one group set off on the search, while the other hid in the nearby forest and slipped into the role of the wolves. In a playful way, it became tangible how research works in the field.

It got loud at the end: We cried together – and quickly realized how much energy and enthusiasm there is in such a group.

Such encounters show how important early educational work is. When children understand how wild animals live and why they need to be protected, the basis for long-term coexistence is created.

We would like to thank the school in Mirzec for the invitation and the open, inquisitive atmosphere.
