Tropical deforestation for palm oil

Palm oil is used by everyone. It is a primary ingredient used in every other food at the supermarket: chocolate bars, ice cream, pizza, lipstick, detergent even soap has palm oil in it. In recent years, global consumption has more than doubled. For the world's growing demand for food, the land for oil palm cultivation is expanding steadily. SAVE is calling, together with many other conservation organisations, for the immediate cessation of all deforestation!

80,000 hectares of jungle shall give way for a palm oil plantation! Red listed species are being threatened. 45,000 people are left with nothing, being cut off from the woods and their farms. Is there no more room in this region for animals and human beings?
